If you are going in for your eye exam, there is the chance that you will hear you should wear corrective lenses. If you haven't worn glasses before, then you will be unfamiliar with the options you have available to you to help your glasses be more comfortable and functional. Read this information to familiarize yourself with some of the options you should consider.

Plastic lenses: Being new to prescription lenses, you may be unaware of the fact that most glasses now include plastic lenses. This is good news, since glasses with glass lenses are much heavier and this makes them quite uncomfortable. The only real benefit that comes with wearing glass lenses is they naturally don't scratch. However, there are ways to scratch proof plastic lenses now as well. Normally, it will be assumed that you are ordering plastic lenses. However, if you are given the option between the two, make sure you opt for plastic.

Anti-scratch coating: As mentioned above, having an anti-scratch coating put on your plastic lenses is an added feature you may need to specify when ordering them. Although sometimes it is added automatically, so make sure this is made clear when ordering your glasses. The coating is important, whether or not you feel you are going to be very careful with your glasses. Even cleaning them can cause small scratches to happen and if you accidentally drop them and they don't have this coating, then a lot of damage can happen to the lenses.

Tinting: Since you can't wear sunglasses and prescription ones at the same time, it only makes sense to have tint added to your lenses. You can go with different colors of tint, so you can get the desired look you like and the darkness you prefer. Do keep in mind, this tint will get stronger as you walk into the sun, so it's not necessary to go with a very dark option.

Eyeglass necklaces: You may have the option of purchasing a necklace for your eyeglasses when you are ordering them. This necklace will allow you to wear your glasses without the risk of dropping them. Plus, you won't have to worry about them falling off your face in certain situations. There are also many styles to choose from.

Attached shades: If you don't like the idea of having tint applied directly to the lenses, there is another option you can go with. You can order shades that attach to the frames of your glasses. You will flip them down over the lenses when you want to wear sunglasses.

High fashion frames: You can purchase basic frames all the way up to high fashion frames. If you decide to go with high fashion frames, your glasses can double as a fashion accessory.
